A Low Carbon Future!

This website is a record of the 'low carbon festival' held in October 2009, to address the growing consensus that there is an urgent need to make the transition from oil dependency to a low carbon future to tackle the threats of climate change and 'Peak Oil'.

The UK's National Parks have a significant role to play in this regard.

e.g.

· The National Parks have abundant renewable energy resources of which only a small proportion has been exploited.

· The way in which land is managed within the National Parks offers the potential to absorb and store large quantities of greenhouse gases.

· National Parks provide a range of significant opportunities for taking measures which will enable the UK to better adapt to climate change.

There is already much activity going on in Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks in this regard. However, to meet the pressing challenges posed by climate change and Peak Oil, there is a need to accelerate the pace of transition to a low carbon future.

Local communities and businesses operating in and around the two moors are passionate about their environment and this festival provided a platform to share in the enthusiasm and drive to develop and learn ways we can all protect Our Moors, Our Country, our Planet!

NB. Every effort was made to minimise the carbon footprint of this event - however to ensure the success of the event and to maximise the key messages, it was necessary to produce controlled numbers of posters and printed material; all of which was produced using sustainable products and methods wherever possible.
